Term Explanation
IMF Intermediate-moisture food
Impedance Apparent resistance to flow of electrical current; sometimes used to detect bacterial growth in liquid culture because impedance decreases.
Indicator organism A relatively easily detected organism which suggests that pathogens may be present. Especially Escherichia coli, usually non-pathogenic, which indicates potential sewage/fecal contamination.
ISP International Streptomyces Project. ISP Medium 4 contains soluble starch, K2HPO4, MgSO4, NaCl, (NH4)2SO4, CaCO3, FeSO4, MnCl2, ZnSO4, and agar. Also called ‘Inorganic Salts Starch Agar’
