K agar Potassium salt of kappa-carrageenan

Kloeckera brevis; now called Kloeckera apiculata; used in microbioassay for inositol

KCN Potassium cyanide
KF Potassium fluoride
KF Streptococcus (agar, Broth) Medium for selective isolation of fecal streptococci. Contains peptone, yeast extract, NaCl, sodium glycerophosphate, maltose, lactose, sodium azide (NaN3), Brom Cresol Purple.
KL Virulence agar Medium used to test virulence of Corynebacterium diphtheria
Kovacs reagent Solution of p-dimethylamino-benzaldehyde and HCl in chloroform. Test for indole.
LAL Limulus amebocyte lysate: test for pyrogens in injectable pharmaceuticals; uses a protein from horseshoe crab (Limulus polyphemous)
Lantern ring In a fermentor, typically a space between two glands, kept sterile by live steam to prevent contamination at a rotating shaft.
Lash serum medium Named for developer, Lash; for cultivation of Trichomonas vaginalis.
LB Broth (or Agar) Luria-Bertani (broth or agar)
LICNR Lysine Iron Cystine Neutral Red. For detection of Salmonella in foods, etc.
Low-acid food pH > 4.5
LPAT Latex particle agglutination test
LV Lactobacillus viridescens
